[dc]I[/dc]n 1990, the Nintendo video game company introduced a new role-playing video game series in Fire Emblem. The series has evolved over the years with the latest game in the series having been released in 2012. The game has been popular in Japan for a long time and has only recently begun to become appreciated and enjoyed by people around other parts of the world.

Key Characters

Lucina

Lucina is the daughter of Chrom and is an expert with the sword. She inherited the Falchion, a famous sword, after Chrom’s death and has come from the future with the intention of trying to rewrite history as a means of stopping the violence that will plague the world.

Ike

The son of Greil, Ike is the leader of a mercenary group. He works as the bodyguard of Princess Elincia and once liberated the land of Crimea from Daein’s grasp. His goal is to earn money for his services but he is often willing to provide people with lessons on how to fight.

Marth

Marth is a warrior who was exiled to Talys in spite of being the prince of Altea. He is a noted swordsman who has become a noble figure as he matures and discovers his importance. Even with this, he wishes to retain some of his innocence.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Plot

 

The stories of the Fire Emblem have evolved since 1990 when Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light was released. In the first game, Marth is exiled to Talys and his sister is captured. His travels led him to look for the Falchion, a fabled sword of immense power. This includes the Fire Emblem, a shield that will allow him to have the power to carry the sword and to defeat a dark dragon.

 

The series continues in Fire Emblem Gaiden as a side story to the first game as other characters search for treasures of value. In Mystery of the Emblem, Marth partners with others including the prince Hardin to retrieve the Fire Emblem and find Medeus, a dragon that has been reincarnated.

 

In Genealogy of the Holy War, the history of the continent of Jugdral is explored with regards to how the lands were formed, how the Holy War started and the formation of the Kingdom of Grannvale. In Path of Radiance, the story continues as Ike joins the group while trying to unite warring factions. These include a group of people who have the ability to transform into animals.

 

In Radiant Dawn, there are seven nations of different factions that are feuding with each other. In addition, the land of Daein is being run by an outside empire that rules the land with an iron first, thus leading to many wanting to look for change.

 

Awakening is the most recent game in this series. In this game, Chrom and many other allies work to fight for the futures of the lands that would become Akaneia and Valentia. This game is seen as more of an origin story with regards to how it is told as the history of these two lands in the series is explored in a little more detail.
