Sabre

These swords are single-edge curved blades that pointed up along with large hand guards. These swords are great for slashing opponents but also excel at thrusting. The lengths of these blades can vary sword to sword. These were typically worn with a Baldric a shoulder belt or a waist mounted belt for swords. Backswords that were used in the medieval period were the prototype and origin of this blade.

The sabre was used widely by the military during the 19th century. The short version of the blade was used during the Napoleonic Wars. The short versions of the blade were then replaced by knives and dagger like weapons. This sabre was still held as the standard weapon until around the time World War I came around.

Sabres today appear more on dress uniform for the national army members such as the Navy, and Marines. The swords obtained this way are made of stainless steel and require very little maintenance to maintain but will shatter easily if used for any type of real combat.

The modern fencing sabre has little to no resemblance to the military sabre. The modern fencing sabre is thin and does not feature a curved blade.
